Short Term Preparatory Courses

Malir University of Science & Technology is a movement for an ethical and moral paradigm shift in educational methodology in order to produce leaders for social change from low middle income families. It is committed to offer state of the art academic programs and promises quality education at affordable fee. Established by prominent philanthropists, professors and medical doctors, Malir University is a flagship of Zafar and Atia Foundation Charitable Trust and a degree awarding university.

BS Programs

The University plans to launch four degree programs in the near future. These are: 4-year BS program in Education, Economics, Development Studies and Medical Technology-Clinical Laboratory Sciences.

Short Term Preparatory Courses

In addition, the University aims to launch short term preparatory courses to enhance competency-based skills and actualize the potentials of participants to: (a) serve in higher positions if they are already working; (b) join the job market directly; (c) pursue higher studies; or (d) obtain knowledge and training for self-satisfaction and promotion. The University aims to offer courses to the broadest possible constituency of learners.

    Objectives of the Course
    English is the language of job markets in Pakistan and in many other parts of the world. It is also one of the leading languages for the acquisition of modern knowledge and pursuance of higher studies. This course which is essentially a foundational course would introduce the Beginners to the wonder world of this powerful international language and prepare them for the Advance Course and subsequently for a much more rewarding future.

    About the Course
    English Writing and Communication Course has been designed especially for the Beginners. It aims to improve basic English grammar and writing skill, and build confidence through audio visual sessions and oral practices.

Dr. Mehtab S. Karim(Vice-Chancellor)

The founding Vice-Chancellor of the university. Prior to joining Malir University of Science & Technology he has been a Professor of Public Policy and a Distinguished Senior Fellow at the Center for Social Science Research at George Mason University, USA. During 2000-08, he was a Professor and Head of Population &Reproductive Health Program at the Aga Khan University, where earlier he was an Associate Professor during 1983-90. In the 1990s, he worked at the World Bank and at the School of Public Health, Johns Hopkins University in USA and at London School of Economics in UK.

In the academic year 2012-13, at the invitation of the Higher Education Commission (HEC) he spent two semesters as a visiting professor at Qaid-e-Azam University, Islamabad (Faculty of Social Sciences), University of Karachi (Faculty of Administrative & Management Sciences) and Dow University of Health Sciences, Karachi. Professor Karim has co-authored three books and has published more than 60 research papers and book chapters. He obtained B.A. Honours from University of Karachi, MS in Social Science from the University of Chicago, USA and PhD in Sociology / Demography from Cornell University, USA.

Prof. Dr. Shahida is a dynamic professional having a wide range of experience in Administration, Teaching, Training, Organization Development, Research and Human Resource Management. She has the proven track record of leadership skills involving; managing, developing and motivating people to achieve their individual & corporate objectives. With her strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, she can deliver effective presentations, consult on projects, and maintain collaborative relationships as a team player.

Prof. Dr. Shahida’s mission is keeping her experience and knowledge; she would like to bring a major change in the higher education system of Pakistan by implementing innovative ideas in teaching and research. As an intelligent communicator, she would like to interact with all stake holders, and work as a self-motivated person for planning organizational procedures and practices.

Prof. Dr. Shahida has been nominated by Georgia State University for “The Distinguished Research in Teacher Education Award 2007” on submitting research paper entitled “Staff Development Program at Higher Education Level in Pakistan- Issues and Challenges” and received Commendation letter from Georgia State University, USA.

Prof. Dr. Shahida has traveled many countries to present her research paper and represented Pakistan in official capacity as well. The countries include; Japan, Australia, Switzerland, USA, Italy, France, Spain, Holland, U.K., UAE, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Hong Kong, Spain, Mauritius, Bangladesh, India, Malaysia, Siri- Lanka, and Singapore.

    Muhammad Siddique Education Management Practitioner

    Muhammad Siddique is an Education Management Practitioner. He has been associated with the profession for almost 30 Years now. During this period he has held core positions in the Admissions, Examination, Students’ Affairs, and Administration at the country’s reputed and recognized institute of Higher Education.

    A brief summary of his engagements is given below:

    Malir University of Science and Technology, Karachi
    Mr. Siddique joined Malir University of Science & Technology three years ago in the capacity of Director Administration, Admissions and Examinations. Now he has been promoted to the post of University Registrar. In addition, he is continuing to oversee the assignment he held in the previous position.

    Prior to his current assignment Mr. Siddique remained associated with New Port University, Karachi Campus; Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto institute of Science and Technology, Karachi; Institute of Health Management, Dow University, Karachi; and, Ghazi Foundation College.

    At SZABIST he was Academic and Examinations Controller for 10 years.. Subsequently, he moved to Dow University as Director Programs and Logistics at the Institute of Health Management (IHM). He remained there from August 2010 to June 2015. He also got associated with Ghazi Foundation as Director Degree Programs for an interim period of 2 years.

    Social cum Welfare Work
    Mr. Siddique has been elected as General Secretary of Sunny Castle Residents’ Welfare Association (Govt. of Sindh Registered Body) in 2017. In addition to his GS responsibilities he is executing the President responsibilities as well.

    Honors and Award
    Mr. Siddique has been awarded a distinguish award i.e., Tamgha-e-Khidmat-III (Military) by the Govt. of Pakistan in recognition of his meritorious 15 years services in the Pakistan Army. The benefit includes the life time pension and other benefits also.

    Professor Shershah Syed Head of the Department, Health Sciences and Medical Technology

    He obtained MBBS Degree from University of Karachi, DORCPI from Royal College of Physicians, Ireland, Diploma in Family planning, Dublin, MRCOG Gynaecologists, London, Diploma in Emergency Obstractical Care, Uppsala University, Sweden, FRCOG from Royal College of Obstricians and Gyeanalogist, London.

    He is the former Head of the Department of OBGY at Sindh Government Qatar Hospital, Karachi, former Associate Professor of OBGY at Dow Medical College, Civil Hospital Karachi and former research Registrar, St. Hellier Hospital carashelton and Adden brooks Hospital Cambridge. He has been associated with served prestigious national and international NGOS focusing on human rights and health rights particular. His research papers have been published in Pakistan and abroad.
